Titans QB Marcus Mariota says he’s put on 5-10 pounds in offseason

Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota said earlier in the offseason that a goal of his was to bulk up.

He’s accomplished that goal, telling reporters on Monday that he had gained 5-10 pounds in good weight. He didn’t clarify as to an exact number, though.

As the quarterback enters the fifth and final year of his rookie contract, staying healthy is a top priority.

Mariota has struggled with this in recent seasons, dealing with everything from a stinger to abdominal and foot injuries that kept him sidelined to the point that backup quarterback Blaine Gabbert saw action in eight games in 2018.

But Mariota is in a good place both physically and mentally now, saying he’s feeling rejuvenated as offseason activities begin after spending months back home in Hawaii.

“During the season, it’s such a hustle and bustle,” he said. “You don’t really get any time to spend quality time. … It was nice to be home.”

As the Titans prepare to get back to the field, Mariota says it all comes down to trust.

“Coach [Mike] Vrabel talked about it a lot today. Just being able to trust one another, trust the coaches, trust what’s going on and the process.”
