Titans QB Marcus Mariota needs to improve touchdown-to-interception ratio

Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota enters a pivotal season in 2019 on the fifth and final year of his rookie deal.

Staying healthy is top priority for the signal-caller, whose backup saw action in eight games last year because Mariota was so frequently injured.

But there are also aspects of his performance he could stand to improve on.

One of these is his touchdown-to-interception ratio, which currently stands at roughly 1:1 over the past two seasons.

Between 2017 and 2018, Mariota has thrown for 24 touchdowns and 23 interceptions.

This is a drastic difference from his 2016 numbers, when he threw 26 touchdowns with only nine interceptions.

Obviously, Mariota isn’t the only one on the offense at fault for this, he’s definitely going to need to be more accurate in the upcoming season to be successful and secure a contract extension.

But he’s confident that both he and his teammates can get the job done.

“If we just take our time and trust each other, build off what we’ve already done, I think we’ll have a chance,” he told reporters earlier this year.

While Mariota seems optimistic about both his recovery and his abilities as he prepares for the season, it will be interesting to see just how much he is able to grow in Arthur Smith’s offense.
