Just like the 2020 season was, the 2021 offseason will be like nothing we’ve seen before, which will make things more difficult for Tennessee Titans general manager, Jon Robinson.
That’s because Robinson will have to navigate what could be a lower salary cap than the one he had to work with in 2020, which is a rare occurrence to say the least.
After teams and the league lost revenue due to restrictions in place from the COVID-19 pandemic, the salary cap could go to as low as $176 million in 2021, which is $22.2 million less than it was last year at $198.2 million.
At best, the salary cap would remain the same, but if it does indeed go down to the aforementioned number, the Titans would have very little wiggle room with about $6.2 million to spend before cuts and restructures, per Over the Cap. That amount ranks 20th in the NFL.
Of course, that would be bad news for a Titans team that has 27 of its own free agents to deal with, on top of the need to add at least one major impact pass rusher.
Hopefully for Tennessee, the salary cap doesn’t take as big of a hit and Robinson will have more money to work with.
