Titans part ways with more assistant coaches

The Tennessee Titans have parted ways with more assistant coaches from former head coach Mike Vrabel’s staff.

According to Titans beat writer Paul Kuharsky, offensive line coach Jason Houghtaling, special teams coach Tom Quinn, linebackers coach Bobby King and assistant inside linebackers coach Zak Kuhr are no longer with the team.

Kuharsky adds that it isn’t clear if they were fired or had expiring contracts that were not renewed.

While those coaches are out, the Titans have not yet made a decision on director of sports performance Frank Piraino, as the team is still sorting through on-field coaches, per Kuharsky.

Houghtaling was the Titans’ assistant offensive line coach for two seasons before being promoted in 2023, a season that saw Tennessee sport one of the worst offensive lines in the sport.

Houghtaling’s departure is the most significant. It now opens the door for the Titans to hire Brian Callahan’s dad, Bill Callahan, or Mike Munchak, who is open to returning to the Titans.

While Munchak is available, Callahan is under contract with the Cleveland Browns, which will make him more difficult to hire.

Quinn was hired as a special teams assistant in 2023 but took over as interim special teams coordinator after Craig Aukerman was fired during the season.

King was with the Titans for two seasons after being hired in 2022, while Kuhr started in Nashville in 2020 as a quality control coach before being named assistant inside linebackers coach in 2021.
