Tennessee Titans controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk is being recognized as the 2019 Tennessean of the Year tonight in Nashville.
The award was first presented by the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame in 1982, and is not given out every year. The honors are only awarded when an individual is worthy of such recognition.
“When it was announced, I was so pleasantly surprised,” Strunk said in a report by the team’s Jim Wyatt. “I feel so honored to have this award, and I’m just very thankful that the folks that award it thought I should get it. … I was totally blown away and very excited and very humbled and honored.”
Strunk has made a number of moves to better the franchise as a whole since she took over, including her role in the record-breaking 2019 NFL Draft, as Nashville hosted over 600,000 fans and the donations she’s made to the community.
Still, some have managed to find a way to determine she doesn’t deserve it.
Titan Sized’s Garrett Sanders believes the fact she doesn’t live in Nashville plays a factor.
“While this may not be a big deal to most fans out there, it is a poor representation for the Titans’ ownership,” he wrote. “For the owner of an NFL franchise to not reside in her own team’s city shows a lack of loyalty to her community.”
Regardless of your take on the issue, it’s safe to say the city has received her well and that she’s plenty deserving of the positive attention she’s receiving at the Omni Hotel Saturday evening.
