Titans OLB Harold Landry’s absence in first two preseason games is ‘by design’

Tennessee Titans outside linebacker Harold Landry has yet to take the field for the team this preseason, even though he’s been present in practices.

But there’s a method to this madness.

Landry’s absence over this year’s matchups against the Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots is “by design” according to a recent report by Titans reporter Jim Wyatt.

“It’s a long season,” head coach Mike Vrabel said, “and we’re going to need Harold – we’re going to need everybody. So it’s kind of by design to make sure he is getting the work in that he needs and we are getting everything we need to see from him. Depending on how much practice he gets this week we’ll see where he’s at Sunday night.”

Vrabel seems satisfied overall with the progress Landry has made, saying he’s improved in the areas of “run game technique” and “point of attack.”

Last season, Landry recorded 44 tackles, 4.5 sacks, two passes defensed and one forced fumble.

Heading into his second year, the Titans are expecting big things from a promising Landry as he looks to step up to the plate with the void left behind by players like Brian Orakpo and Derrick Morgan.

It will be interesting to see if Landry is a part of the lineup when the Titans take on the Chicago Bears on Aug. 29 at 7:00 p.m. CT.
