Titans’ offense comes alive in win over Packers: Everything we know

The Tennessee Titans put together their best all-around game of the 2022 campaign in Week 11, with their defense and offense showing up in a big way en route to a 27-17 victory over the Green Bay Packers on Thursday night.

No, the Titans didn’t find much success on the ground, but their passing attack was the best it has been all season long, and the 27 points were a season-high.

Outside of an interception, Ryan Tannehill was flawless, completing 22-of-27 passes for a season-high 333 yards and two touchdowns in what was undoubtedly his best showing of the campaign.

Tannehill’s receivers also answered the bell, including rookie Treylon Burks, who had multiple 40-plus-yard catches in what was a career night for him.

What was surprising to nobody, Tennessee’s defense came to play once again and put the clamps on Aaron Rodgers and Co., making it impossible to overcome the Titans’ offensive output.

Now, let’s dive a bit further into the details and see how the Titans came away with a win that should have every fan very encouraged.

Austin Hooper caught a 16-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter on a ball from Tannehill that was squeezed into a tight window. With the way the defense was playing, the Packers were never overcoming a two-score deficit that late in the game.

-This game had almost everything we’ve wanted to see from the offense this season. Tannehill was sharp, Henry, Burks, Woods, Hooper and Chig all got involved and made an impact, and there were even a few big plays down the field.

-He wasn’t perfect with some bad decisions on short-yardage situations, but Todd Downing had his best game of the season. Downing even pulled out some trickery that worked to perfection on a few occasions, and he showed some gusto late in the fourth quarter by calling a deep ball to Burks when Tennessee had the game in hand. More of all this, please.

-Treylon Burks finally had his true breakout game, with two receptions of 40-plus yards, including a 43-yard catch in the first quarter and a 51-yard catch on star corner Jaire Alexander in the fourth quarter. Burks finished with career-highs in catches (seven) and receiving yards (111). This is the Burks we expected to see when he came out of college.

-Derrick Henry was stifled on the ground for the most part, but he found a way to impact this game in more ways than one. He still gained 87 yards on the ground and ran for a touchdown, but he also completed a pair of passes, one of which went for a score, and his 42-yard reception on a rare successful screen helped setup another touchdown. The King literally did it all on Thursday night.

-Tennessee’s defense didn’t get much going in the pass-rush but the secondary provided great coverage on the back-end and was responsible for the Titans’ lone sack, which came from Jeffery Simmons.

-Tennessee’s defense held the Packers to just 56 rushing yards (2.9 yards per carry) and 215 passing yards. The Packers were 2-3 in the red zone, 7-14 on third downs, and 0-2 on fourth downs.

-The Titans’ offense was 7-13 on third downs, 1-2 on fourth downs, and 4-6 in the red zone.

Injuries

DL Teair Tart (leg): Tart went down twice in this game, but the first time might’ve been an acting job. Nevertheless, he did return.

DL Denico Autry (knee): Autry was officially listed as questionable to return in the third quarter but didn’t come back into the game.

CB Kristian Fulton (hamstring): Fulton was listed as questionable to return in the fourth quarter but remained sidelined.

The Titans have now won seven of their last eight games and improve to 7-3 on the season. They’ll get some much-needed extra rest ahead of a Week 12 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals in Nashville.
