Titans move down in Mel Kiper’s re-grading of 2018 NFL Draft

The Tennessee Titans found their overall grade lowered as ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper released his re-grading of the 2018 draft classes Tuesday morning.

Kiper gave the Titans a “C” and implied that he might rate the class higher if linebackers Rashaan Evans and Harold Landry can develop into high-level players.

“All in all, it’s tough to grade highly such a small class,” he wrote. “If Evans and Landry can develop into top-tier talents, that 50 percent hit rate will look nice on GM Jon Robinson’s résumé. But this team had a lot of needs that it couldn’t fill because the picks were traded to move up.”

Jon Robinson did a lot of switching up in the order last year, moving up two times to acquire a pair of front seven pieces.

Tennessee moved up the board to No. 22 to secure Evans, then  to No. 41 on the following day to pick up Landry. Robinson did address important team needs with such wheeling and dealing, but left the Titans without any draft capital by doing so.

Tennessee ultimately came out with just four picks, capping off the event by adding safety Dane Cruikshank and quarterback Luke Falk. The latter player failed to make it on to the 53-man roster, joining the ranks of other failed Titans backups.

With the Titans heading into the 2019 NFL Draft with the No. 19 overall pick – and fresh off a successful free agency period – it will be interesting to see which grade the Titans earn when Kiper writes the same piece next year.
