Titans’ Mike Vrabel reacts to Texans firing Bill O’Brien

Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel met with the media on Tuesday and reacted to the news of the Houston Texans firing their head coach and general manager, Bill O’Brien.

Vrabel and O’Brien know each other well. Not only are they friends, but both men were members of the New England Patriots at the same time for two seasons, and O’Brien gave Vrabel his first NFL coaching job back in 2014 with the Texans, where he later served as defensive coordinator.

The Titans head coach said he respects O’Brien and called him a mentor, while also sharing his belief that the former Texans head coach will get another job in the NFL whenever he’s ready.

With O’Brien now out in Houston after a disastrous 0-4 start, the Texans have named Romeo Crennel as the interim head coach. Tennessee will meet Houston for the first time this season in Week 6 at Nissan Stadium.

Where O’Brien goes from here remains to be seen, but we can’t help but think that the Titans could be a potential landing spot next year if offensive coordinator Arthur Smith ends up landing a head coaching gig in 2021.

O’Brien has experience as an offensive coordinator in the NFL after serving as the Patriots’ back in 2011, and we all know how much Vrabel likes to go with players and coaches he is familiar with.

Of course, a lot can happen between now and then, and there is no guarantee that Smith will even move on, but stash that in the back of your mind for now.
