When it comes to the Tennessee Titans’ biggest two free agents, quarterback Ryan Tannehill and running back Derrick Henry, head coach Mike Vrabel has a plan.
What exactly that plan entails, we still don’t know.
When asked about Tannehill and Henry while in the booth with Rich Eisen and Daniel Jeremiah during NFL Network’s broadcast of the combine workouts, Vrabel said “the plan is still in progress.”
“Well, the plan is still in progress. We’re still a way from free agency and we’re working through… Jon and I are working through like everybody else, trying to get guys signed back. Free agency is a two-way street, you’ve got to want to be back as a player, and the team has to make decisions and make accommodations to bring those guys back. But those guys were a huge part of what we did. “
In what seems to be a trend after general manager Jon Robinson did it during his NFL Combine presser, Vrabel went on to talk up Henry, but had little extra to say about Tannehill.
“The thing I’d said about Derrick is that he was a great runner and he was physical and durable, but his leadership improved throughout the season. I saw a different player as far as leadership… When we were late in the season and Derrick said ‘hey, run that play again,’ I didn’t have to say anything, I just stood there and they got on the line and they ran the play again because he wanted to see a look or we maybe missed a block or he missed a cut. So, those guys are valuable to us and we’re going to try and do everything we can to make sure all of our good players are back.”
Again, it’s interesting that now both Vrabel and Robinson have talked up Henry a ton in separate comments, while being a bit more mum on Tannehill.
Sure, both have mentioned how great and important Tannehill was last season, but not even close to the extent that they have for Henry.
As I’ve said before, quotes like these only add to the speculation that Tannehill might not be back, and that perhaps Tom Brady could be the guy who the Titans bring to Nashville in 2020.
