Titans make Jeffery Simmons contract extension official

Four days after reportedly agreeing to terms on a four-year contract extension with star defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons, the Tennessee Titans have made the move official.

Included with the announcement was the news that Simmons and the Titans will hold a press conference on Wednesday at noon CT.

Tennessee did not give the exact terms of the four-year deal, but based on reports we know it’s worth $94 million, with $66 million guaranteed and a $24 million signing bonus.

The deal makes Simmons the second-highest paid defensive lineman in NFL history behind Aaron Donald, and his guaranteed money total ranks first at the position.

In all, this a great deal for both sides.

Simmons gets the money he deserves and the Titans keep one of their franchise cornerstones, who is now locked up for five years when you include his fifth-year option in 2023.

The timing of the extension was beneficial for Tennessee, also, as Simmons’ price might have gone up had the two sides not reached the agreement before Quinnen Williams and Dexter Lawrence got their extensions from the New York Jets and Giants, respectively.
