The Tennessee Titans have reached a deal to make Kevin Byard the highest-paid safety in the history of the NFL.
The deal is a five-year, $70.5 million contract extension with $31 million guaranteed. He will average $14.1 million per season.
Byard uses agent David Mulughet, the same one used by other star safeties like Landon Collins and Earl Thomas.
After Byard was selected in the third round of the 2016 NFL draft, he quickly became one of the league’s premier safeties. In 2017, he was tied for the most interceptions in the league with eight.
The Titans also recently extended tight end Delanie Walker and made left tackle Taylor Lewan the highest-paid offensive lineman in the NFL last year.
This deal has to make the purse strings a little tighter for the Titans but also make you wonder who is next — quarterback Marcus Mariota, running back Derrick Henry, and offensive lineman Jack Conklin are all on expiring contracts.
