Titans look to go from ‘good to great’ in 2019

The Tennessee Titans head into the 2019 having finished their last three seasons with an overall record of 9-7.

While it’s a satisfactory performance overall, the Titans want to boost their game to the next level in the upcoming season. This is a team that wants to regularly be competitive in the postseason, and it appears all the parts are finally starting to come together between important wins last year and a successful first wave of free agency.

According to head coach Mike Vrabel, getting the team where they want to be is largely an issue of mindset.

“It might not work, but we’re going to try to remind ourselves that we’re trying to be great every day,” Vrabel said Monday when he met with the media. “And instead of throwing it out there, ‘I’m good, I’m great.’ We got to believe that we can be great to take the next step and do that every single day.”

Titans safety Kevin Byard also stressed a theme of being ‘great.’

“We have to be great in everything that we do,” he said. “When it comes to this conditioning, trying to be the best. It’s not really about competing against us, it’s about competing against yourself. You say competing against your mindset. If you feel like you need to quit or I’m tired, just keep pushing yourself to the next level, and hopefully that’ll take us there.”

The Titans have set themselves up for success thus far, keeping a sense of continuity on the offense with the promotion of Arthur Smith, and bolstering position groups on both sides of the ball with additions like wide receiver Adam Humphries, defensive end Cameron Wake, quarterback Ryan Tannehill and offensive guard Rodger Saffold.

The team will make its next moves ahead of the season as the 2019 NFL Draft kicks off on April 25.
