Titans lock in Proctor for 2022 NRL season

Gold Coast have taken up a one-year NRL contract option on experienced forward Kevin Proctor. (AAP)

Kevin Proctor's NRL career will extend into a 15th season after Gold Coast opted to take up an option for the co-captain to stay at the club.

Less than a year after Proctor's time in the NRL looked over, the second-rower will now go close to joining the 300-game club with the extra season.

Proctor feared he would have to look elsewhere when he entered last September without a deal while serving a four-week ban for biting.

But the former Kiwi Test forward was handed a lifeline by the Titans at the 11th hour to stay with the club, with only the 2021 season guaranteed.

However the Titans have now made the call to keep him in their 2022 squad, calling on his 271 games of experience in an otherwise young pack of forwards.

"Kevin's competitiveness and drive to see our club to be successful is one of the big reasons that we wanted to keep him around this group for another season," coach Justin Holbrook said.

"We've got some great young talent in David Fifita, Moeaki Fotuaika, Tino Fa'asuamaleaui and Beau Fermor.

"Having someone of KP's experience will aid their development.

"He sets such high standards at training and he'll have an important role to play in our squad next season."
