Titans listed as possible landing spot for QB Colin Kaepernick

The Tennessee Titans have been named as a possible landing spot for free-agent quarterback, Colin Kaepernick.

During a segment on SportsCenter on Saturday, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that league sources believe the Titans, Washington Redskins, Jacksonville Jaguars and Los Angeles Chargers are among the best fits for Kaepernick (H/T Bleacher Report).

“There’s been some healthy buzz that he could potentially get a job. And so with Seattle [Seahawks] coach Pete Carroll floating that a team called about Kaepernick, I asked league sources who did they think could be that team right now, who is the best fit for him. And a couple of options: Tennessee Titans, because they love to run that play action. Ryan Tannehill, using his athleticism. They don’t have a natural backup right now, so that would be a good fit.”

It doesn’t come as much of a surprise that the Titans were named here. After all, Tennessee doesn’t have a secure solution at backup quarterback behind starter Ryan Tannehill.

As it stands now, the Titans will have a competition between Logan Woodside and seventh-round pick Cole McDonald for the No. 2 spot, however neither have taken a regular season snap in the NFL.

While Kaepernick hasn’t played in a game since the 2016 season (Jan. 1, 2017, to be exact), he would conceivably provide an upgrade at the position for the Titans by default thanks to his experience and a skill set that mirrors that of Tannehill.

It remains to be seen if Kaepernick would take a role as a clear backup and/or if the Titans are interested in signing him, but the logic is certainly there for this to happen based on what the Titans need.
