Titans’ Kevin Byard: Colts underestimated Jaguars in Week 1

One of the biggest surprises of the Week 1 NFL slate was the Jacksonville Jaguars beating the Indianapolis Colts, which led to Jacksonville sitting tied atop the AFC South with the Tennessee Titans, its Week 2 opponent.

Despite being on the road, the Colts were heavy favorites over a Jaguars team that was considered a push-over thanks to their clear intention to tank after the team unloaded a ton of talent during the offseason.

When speaking to the media on Wednesday, Byard shared his belief that the Colts underestimated the Jaguars in the season-opening contest, which led to a dogfight that Indy might not have been ready for.

The Titans have to be careful not to make the same mistake when they host the Jaguars in Week 2, although it isn’t out of the question given their dominance over the Jaguars in recent years.

Tennessee has won seven of its last nine matchups with Jacksonville, and the Jags haven’t won a game in Tennessee since 2013. It has gotten so bad that Jaguars fans probably have nightmares of Derrick Henry and the Titans.

With a track record like that, combined with the expectation that the Jags will be one of the worst teams in the NFL this season, it’s easy to see how the Titans could take this game lightly.

However, Byard and the rest of the Titans’ veterans know better. They’re going to take this game as seriously as they do any other and will use the Jags’ win over the Colts as the example of what will happen if they don’t.
