Titans’ Isaiah Wilson posted elite pass-block grade among 1st-round OTs

When the Tennessee Titans drafted offensive tackle Isaiah Wilson in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, we heard a lot about how the Georgia product was a great fit because of his ability as a run-blocker, which is true.

However, Wilson also excelled in pass protection, as evidenced by his owning the second-best pass-blocking grade among offensive tackles taken in the first round of this year’s draft, per Pro Football Focus.

  1. Andrew Thomas – 85.4
  2. Isaiah Wilson – 82.7
  3. Jedrick Wills Jr. – 82.4
  4. Austin Jackson – 79.3
  5. Tristan Wirfs – 78.5
  6. Mekhi Becton – 73.0

That’s pretty impressive considering Wilson was the last tackle to come off the board in the first round.

Another pass-blocking stat that jumps off the page at you comes from Touchdown Wire’s Doug Farrar, who noted that Wilson allowed just nine total pressures in 358 pass-blocking snaps in 2019.

In his rookie season, Wilson will be vying for the starting right tackle job left vacant by the departed Jack Conklin in a competition between he and veteran Dennis Kelly in training camp.

Kelly certainly has the edge going into it thanks to his experience and the lack of a normal offseason for the rookie that may stunt his development in Year 1.

But Wilson will eventually get his chance — and it appears the Titans may have gotten a more well-rounded tackle than we realized when the pick was first made.
