During a Zoom call with the media on Thursday, Tennessee Titans general manager Jon Robinson was asked about the recent comments made by the team’s former defensive lineman, Jurrell Casey, who was traded earlier this offseason.
Back in March, Casey was dealt to the Denver Broncos in exchange for a seventh-round pick in what amounted to a salary dump on Tennessee’s part.
Casey was a guest on the McCourty twins’ podcast on Sunday and made it clear he was bothered that the Titans traded him.. In fact, he felt like the team threw him away “like a piece of trash.”
Robinson reiterated that he thinks Casey is a great person, but also stated that the trade was nothing personal and that he’s just trying to do what he feels is best for the team.
“Those decisions are never personal,” Robinson explained, via Erik Bacharach of the Tennessean. “They have to be in the best interest of the football team. That one was not an easy decision to make.”
And it was a tough pill to swallow for a Titans fan base that universally loves Casey and everything he brought to the franchise during his nine-year tenure. What makes it even harder is that the Titans have done nothing with the money saved from trading Casey so far.
Many have surmised the money freed up from dealing Casey would go to signing Jadeveon Clowney, but that obviously hasn’t happened yet. Such a move would make letting Casey go a bit easier to take.
The Titans will see their old friend immediately in 2020, as the Titans head to Denver to take on the Broncos on Monday Night Football in Week 1.
