There has been a popular thought among Tennessee Titans fans, writers and analysts that once the compensatory pick deadline (Monday at 3 p.m. CT) passed we might see a swift end to the Jadeveon Clowney sweepstakes.
And, hopefully it would end with him coming to Nashville.
Apparently that is not the case, as Titans general manager Jon Robinson made it clear that “nothing is imminent” with Clowney and there is no signing coming on Monday afternoon.
Robinson has admitted that the Titans have interest in Clowney, but has said time and time again that nothing is imminent.
There could be several factors holding things up, like Clowney’s contract demands and the possibility that he’s waiting for a better offer, the compensatory pick deadline, and/or the teams vying for him waiting for an opportunity to get a physical done.
Following the draft, Robinson said that the pursuit of Clowney did not impact his draft strategy, however it’s important to note the team didn’t add any EDGE defenders with any of its six picks.
Adding to that, the Seattle Seahawks, the team once thought to be the favorites to sign Clowney, added two edge defenders during the draft in Tennessee’s Darrell Taylor and Syracuse’s Alton Robinson. That would seem to indicate the team is planning for a future without their EDGE.
On the surface, it looks as though the Titans are in a great position to land him with what transpired in the draft, but then again we don’t know what other teams are involved.
Until something is announced, assuming anything is futile.
