Titans GM Jon Robinson talks possibility of signing Jadeveon Clowney

While we continue to wait and see where Jadeveon Clowney will sign, Tennessee Titans general manager Jon Robinson won’t “close the door” on the team possibly signing him.

Robinson was a guest on the “Official Titans Podcast” on Friday and reiterated that the team has had discussions back and forth with the biggest name left on the free-agent market, per Jim Wyatt of Titans Online.

“We’ll see,” Robinson said. “Like I said a couple of weeks ago, we’ve had some discussions there and we’ve had some dialogue back and forth. You never close the door on anything.”

Robinson also made it clear that there is nothing “imminent in the works” as far as signing Clowney is concerned.

“As I said earlier, I don’t think there’s anything imminent in the works,” Robinson said of Clowney on Friday. “But we’ll continue to try and work though things and see how they go.”

This isn’t the first time that Robinson has spoken about Clowney, as the Titans GM revealed the two sides have had talks this offseason during a conference call earlier this month.

Clowney was originally seeking upwards of $20 million per year in a contract, but a report revealed he has since moved off that price and has lowered it to around $17 to $18 million.

As it stands now, the Titans have about $21 million in cap space, per Over the Cap, but a little over $5 million of that will go towards the team’s 2020 draft picks.

If the Titans are going to sign Clowney, it appears they’ll have to move some money around in order to make it work.
