Tennessee Titans general manager Jon Robinson and head coach Mike Vrabel both yielded important questions about the current team, and the moves it may make this offseason.
There may be no other position group with more question marks surrounding it than the offensive line — particularly the interior.
After all, the unit did show regression between the 2017 and 2018 seasons, as the Titans allowed 12 more sacks (47) last season than they did in the previous season (35).
Solving the issue will come down to moves made in the mid-March free agency period, the 2019 NFL Draft and perhaps moving some players around that are already on the roster.
When Robinson was asked about the possibility of shuffling the spots of Jack Conklin and Dennis Kelly, he responded by calling them “primary tackles.”
Another thing that comes into question here is the possibility of the Titans picking up Conklin’s fifth-year option.
The right tackle was an All-Pro, but capped off the 2017 season with an ACL tear in the playoffs. When he returned in 2018, his performance just couldn’t stay consistent.
He also fought the injury bug, missing a total of seven games games between knee issues and a concussion.
Despite this, Robinson and the Titans still seem interested in keeping him on the roster.
“We’re still working through all that right now,” Robinson said. “That’s not due until May. I don’t even have the official number yet. There’s a lot things that factor into that, the final cap number and all that. Working through all that, I don’t think we’re going to make any decision here in the end of February.”
