Titans face Kyle Allen at QB vs. Panthers on Sunday

The Tennessee Titans won’t be facing Cam Newton at quarterback when they meet the Carolina Panthers this week.

Panthers head coach Ron Rivera announced on Monday that Kyle Allen will start in Netwon’s place as the starter continues to work through rehab.

Allen has been mostly successful as a starter for the Panthers since Netwton was sidelined with a Linsfrac injury, recording a 4-1 overall record.

Perhaps the biggest difference between Newton and Allen comes down to mobility. Newton is much better at using his legs than Allen is, so that’s a threat the Titans defense won’t be against this week.

Allen did post a dismal performance in last week’s 51-13 loss to the San Francisco 49ers – his only loss under center in Newton’s absence.

Allen was 19-of-37 passing for 158 yards and three interceptions.

It will be curious to see how well he bounces back against a tough Titans defense that capitalized on four turnovers against Tampa Bay — intercepting quarterback Jameis Winston twice and forcing him to fumble as many times.

The Titans and Panthers are set to kick off at noon CT on Sunday in Bank of America Stadium.
