Titans face backline trouble after charge

Gold Coast's Patrick Herbert is facing an NRL suspension for a high tackle. (AAP)

Gold Coast's backline stocks have taken another hit with centre Patrick Herbert facing a two-game NRL ban for his high shot on Jordan Pereira.

With fellow Titans centre Brian Kelly in doubt to face Canterbury on Sunday with an ankle injury, Herbert added to Justin Holbrook's concerns on Monday.

The 24-year-old was issued with a grade-two charge for the hit in Gold Coast's defeat of St George Illawarra, meaning he will miss games against the Bulldogs and North Queensland even with an early guilty plea.

The Titans already have winger Phillip Sami sidelined with an ankle injury, but have Esan Marsters available in their squad.

Winger Anthony Don has been lingering in Queensland Cup and could be recalled if they face a significant shortage.

Canterbury could also be without Luke Thompson for the clash on the Gold Coast, after he was charged with dangerous contact on Blayke Brailey.

Thompson will fight the ban at the NRL judiciary on Wednesday night, meaning he will miss three matches if he loses rather than the two he could have copped with an early guilty plea.

Meanwhile, representative star Cameron Murray will miss South Sydney's clash with the Dragons after the back-rower accepted a one-game ban for a crusher tackle.

Manly prop Josh Aloiai will also miss one match after he took an early guilty plea for his crusher tackle on Alex Seyfarth, while Warriors middle Matt Lodge has also accepted a one-match suspension.
