Titans DT Larrell Murchison’s N.C State head coach gives scouting report

The Tennessee Titans selected Larrell Murchison in the fifth round (No. 174) of the 2020 NFL Draft to help fill-in the depth on their defensive line after the departures of Jurrell Casey and Austin Johnson this offseason.

Murchison spent two years at N.C. State and was quite productive, finishing his time there with 80 tackles (20 for loss) and 11 sacks. He has been lauded for his non-stop motor and quality character, also.

He’ll now have a chance to compete for snaps in training camp and figures to be a factor in pass-rush situations at the very least.

The Titans caught up with his old head coach from N.C. State, Dave Doeren, who gave a scouting report on his former player.

It was clear the Titans were at least interested in the 6-foot-2, 297-pound lineman after meeting with him during the pre-draft process.

However, general manager Jon Robinson made it clear it was more than just a casual interest, as Erik Bacharach of the Tennessean reported.

Titans wanted him badly. How badly? Robinson said at the end of Day 2, Murchison was the last prospect he looked at before closing his computer for the night. “We weathered 67 picks there with him,” Robinson said, “and we were fortunate enough to get him.”

Well, the Titans ended up getting their man and now we’ll have to see how right or wrong they were in the coming years, but for now it seems like he was a solid pick at that spot in the draft.
