Titans DT Jeffery Simmons in no rush to return to action

Many are curious to see just what a newly drafted Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons will bring to the table — but they may be in for a wait.

Despite knowing Simmons may not be able to play for the season as he recovers from an ACL tear sustained in February, the Titans took a chance and selected him in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft anyway.

Simmons, who met with the media on Tuesday for the first time since being drafted, says he’s not trying to speed up the process.

He wants to be at full capacity when he gets back to the field — regardless of how long that may take.

“I’m not rushing anything,” Simmons said, per The Tennessean. “If I don’t play this year, I’m fine with it, but my goal is to get healthy on my time and on this team’s time. There’s no time limit and when I can come back. Every day I come to work, I’m putting my mindset, you know, ‘I want to get back today.’ That’s how I come to work everyday and try to get better.”

Good things are expected to be in store for Dean Pees’ defense when the rookie is able to go into a game again, as he was quite a force for the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

On a three-season college career, the 6-foot-4, 301-pounder racked up 163 tackles, seven sacks, seven passes defensed, five forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and a touchdown.

There is currently no clear time table as to when Simmons will complete his recovery.
