Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry has been voted as the Offensive Player of the Year by the Pro Football Writers of America.
Henry becomes the first Titans player to win the award since it was first handed out in 1992. The last running back to take home the honor was former Los Angeles Rams running back, Todd Gurley. Henry was also recently named to PFWA’s All-NFL and All-AFC teams.
The PFWA voted Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers as its Most Valuable Player, while Rams defensive lineman Aaron Donald won the Defensive Player of the Year.
The honor for Henry is well-deserved after he posted the eighth 2,000-yard season in NFL history and became the first back-to-back rushing champion since 2006-07. He also led the NFL in rushing touchdowns and attempts.
While this is no doubt an honor, this isn’t the “big” Offensive Player of the Year Award, which comes from the Associated Press. That award will be handed out at the NFL Honors show on February 6.
