Titans’ Derrick Henry on Jadeveon Clowney: ‘He could help us in a big way’

During his first media appearance since signing a four-year, $50 million extension with the Tennessee Titans, Derrick Henry was asked about the team’s pursuit of Jadeveon Clowney.

And from his response, it’s clear that the Titans running back is a fan of adding the free-agent pass-rusher.

“If he wants to come to Tennessee, we would definitely welcome him with open arms,” Henry said, via Erik Bacharach of the Tennesseean. “Hopefully if they’re talking, we can get something done.”

Henry also believes that Clowney could “help us in a big way,” according to Terry McCormick of Titan Insider.

After getting Henry’s extension done, the Titans actually have more cap space to work with in order to bring in Clowney, as well as other free agents if they so choose.

The former Heisman Trophy winner’s 2020 cap hit now stands at $6 million, as opposed to the $10.278 million it would have been under the franchise tag. That leaves Tennessee with around $24 million to spend.

Of course, the wait for Clowney’s decision continues, however we could be getting an answer sooner.

Training camps for most teams start on July 28, so one would assume the former No. 1 overall pick will make a decision by then. If not, he risks falling behind in preparation for a 2020 season that could be a “prove-it” year.
