The Tennessee Titans have made a number of notable moves this offseason.
One of these has been the re-signing of safety Kenny Vaccaro, who more than just got the job done in the absence of Johnathan Cyprien last year.
Vaccaro recorded 58 tackles, two sacks, four passes defensed and one interception in his first year in Nashville.
On a six-season career, the safety has amassed 443 tackles, 9.5 sacks, 34 passes defensed and nine interceptions.
Looking at these numbers, it’s easy to see the Vaccaro has managed to make an impact in the NFL.
In fact, NFL.com’s Adam Rank believes the Titans’ decision to move forward with Vaccaro may be one of the most overlooked storylines of the 2019 offseason.
“The Titans took a one-year gamble on Vaccaro and it paid off pretty well. They inked him to a four-year deal this offseason and I really like the move,” he wrote. “He and Kevin Byard form one of the best safety tandems in the NFL. They are like any good tag team. Vaccaro is the talented headliner who makes you go “WHOA” at least once a game. Vaccaro is that enforcer who needs to bring the lumber from time to time. Kind of like the original Hart Foundation, where Byard is Bret Hart and Vaccaro is Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart.”
In the same article, Rank claimed the signing of former Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill – who general manager Jon Robinson has repeatedly said is nothing more than an insurance policy – is the most overthought storyline.
It will be interesting to see if Vaccaro can be just as effective this season as he proved to be in 2018 as the Titans look to become even more solid on defense with a number of new offseason additions.
