Titans DE Jurrell Casey’s helpful role with rookie Jeffery Simmons works both ways

Tennessee Titans rookie defensive end Jeffery Simmons is in good hands as he continues to learn from mentor figure and veteran Jurrell Casey.

But what’s not talked about quite as much is what Simmons has done for Casey, providing motivation for the 29-year-old who just came off of the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Simmons himself is still rehabbing a February ACL tear, but is maintaining a sense of positive energy and spreading it to those around him.

Here’s what ESPN’s Turron Davenport had to say of the two in an a recent article.

“Simmons is making an impact with veterans, too,” he wrote. “Casey said he got motivation from Simmons to push himself more and joked that the trainers have to tell Simmons to slow down.”

There is still no clear timetable on when Simmons will make his return, but he’s not going to push himself into it before he’s at full capacity.

“I’m trusting the process,” he said in the same report. “It’s not too frustrating right now. My goal is to get healthy, and when I get back on the field, it’s full go. I’m just trusting the plan, coming to work every day, just getting better every day. Whenever that time comes, I can’t wait.”

The Titans are set to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 3 of preseason action on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. CT in Nissan Stadium.
