Titans DB Amani Hooker led FBS in slot coverage grade

The Tennessee Titans have seen a lot of promise out their 2019 NFL Draft picks this offseason.

Before they get in on the real action, the best analysts can do is speculate, look at the film and read the stats to predict just how much of an impact these rookies will make.

Defensive back Amani Hooker is one player who is expected to develop into something special in Tennessee. Hooker was drafted by the Titans this year at No. 116 overall in the fourth round.

It’s curious to note that, according to Pro Football Focus, Hooker had the highest slot coverage grade in the FBS at 88.5.

Obviously, only so much stock can be put into stats like these, but it’s still impressive for him to rank first in such a category.

Hooker undoubtedly impressed in three years with the Iowa Hawkeyes, recording 125 tackles, 3.5 for loss, six interceptions, one touchdown and nine passes defensed.

In 2018, totaled 65 tackles, 3.5 for loss, one sack, four interceptions and seven passes defensed.

If Hooker can translate his effectiveness in college to the NFL season, he’ll have no problem making a name for himself with Dean Pees’ defensive scheme as the team prepares to move forward into the 2019 season.
