Titans’ Darrynton Evans was among most explosive RBs in 2020 NFL Draft

The Tennessee Titans added running back Darrynton Evans during the 2020 NFL Draft in order to give the team another viable option behind stud rusher, Derrick Henry.

Evans is the perfect complement to Henry, partly because he’s an explosive runner who can make big things happen on the ground. He should also provide a boost as a pass-catcher out of the backfield.

Believe it or not, Evans was actually one of the more explosive backs in this year’s draft class, as his 43 carries of 10-plus yards in 2019 ranked third among draft-eligible backs, per Pro Football Focus.

Evans totaled an impressive 6.0 yards per carry at Appalachian State, including a career-high 6.6 yards per tote in 2018.

One of the issues for the Titans last season was getting production from the running back position when Henry wasn’t on the field. Dion Lewis simply wasn’t effective, which caused the Titans to lean even more on Henry.

The Titans will hope that Evans can alleviate that issue and be an asset both on the ground and through the air, allowing the team to give Henry a bit more rest throughout the season.

But Evans’ ability to impact a game doesn’t stop at just being a running back. He also proved to be an electric returner in college, as he averaged 25.7 yards per kick return and scored three times.
