Tennessee Titans veteran cornerback Johnathan Joseph spoke to the media for the first time since joining the team as a free agent.
Joseph is entering the 15th year of his NFL career after having played five with the Cincinnati Bengals and the last nine with the Houston Texans.
Here are five things we learned from his first Zoom call as a member of the team.
Joseph’s wife is from Nashville
One of the reasons Joseph decided to sign with the Titans was because his wife is from Nashville. She went to Hillsboro High School and then Tennessee State University.
Not giving Clowney advice
With Jadeveon Clowney being on the Titans’ radar, Joseph said he would love to reunite with his close friend and former teammate in Nashville.
Joseph said he’d offer advice to Clowney if asked, but so far that hasn’t happened. The veteran corner is instead sitting back and allowing his friend to have all the space necessary to make his decision.
Clowney and Joseph were teammates with the Houston Texans for five seasons before the pass-rusher was traded to the Seattle Seahawks in 2019.
Not coming to be “the savior”
Joseph has no intention of coming to Tennessee to try and replace Logan Ryan and be some kind of savior. Instead, he’s ready to fill in where need be and do whatever is asked of him.
Joseph was once a No. 1 corner, but at the age of 36 that is no longer the case. That doesn’t matter, though, as the veteran was really brought in to be depth and a leader who can also be like an extra coach.
His love for the game keeps him playing into his late 30s.
A lot of dropped picks
Joseph is among the leaders in career interceptions among active players, but it appears he could have had a lot more.
The veteran stated he has dropped somewhere between 30 to 35 potential picks during his 14-year career, including an astounding 10 during his rookie campaign back in 2006.
Learning new tricks
Joseph once ran a 4.3 40-yard dash but says he now relies mostly on technique and veteran saavy to be effective in the secondary.
He also finds that it’s never too late to learn. In fact, Joseph says Titans safety Kenny Vaccaro taught him something new in a recent virtual team meeting.
