The Tennessee Titans filled three positions of need in the first two days of the 2020 NFL Draft.
In the first round, the Titans nabbed their right tackle of the future in Isaiah Wilson, who happens to be a great fit for what the team wants to to offensively.
On Day 2, general manager Jon Robinson hit it out of the park after cornerback Kristian Fulton fell in his lap late in the second round, giving the Titans a potential slot corner for 2020 and an outside starter in 2021.
After that, he was able to scoop up the perfect complement to Derrick Henry with the selection of Darrynton Evans in the third.
Now that those needs have been addressed, what positions should the Titans be looking to add to on Day 3?
Let’s take a look.
EDGE
Adding or not adding an EDGE in this draft will greatly depend on what the Titans know about Jadeveon Clowney’s plans.
If he’s coming, the Titans can avoid drafting one, as the team would have a stellar group of outside linebackers already with Clowney, Harold Landry, Vic Beasley, Kamalei Correa, D’Andre Walker, Reggie Gilbert and Derick Roberson.
If Clowney isn’t coming, the Titans might want to add another depth piece to this group. At this point in the draft, the chances of landing a starting-caliber EDGE aren’t very good.
Quarterback
Because Logan Woodside has never taken a regular season snap during his career, the Titans would be wise to add some form of competition for him in training camp.
That could come in the form of a Day 3 pick or the signing of an undrafted free agent after, but Tennessee would be best off adding a veteran option in free agency who can keep the team afloat if Ryan Tannehill gets hurt.
Wide receiver
The Titans already have a stellar receiving corps. going into 2020, but it wouldn’t hurt to add a deep threat who can stretch the field for the team’s passing attack.
It also might be wise to add a receiver sooner rather than later on Day 3 in the event the team doesn’t pick up Corey Davis’ fifth-year option, in which case he might move on in free agency in 2021.
Kicker
This is another position the Titans could use some depth and competition at if they want to hedge their bet to avoid the disaster that was the field goal unit in 2019.
Greg Joseph is currently signed as the kicker, however he attempted just one field goal in his limited time with the team and should be made to compete for the starting job ahead of 2020.
The seventh round is the perfect time to take a kicker, and the Titans have three picks there. If Tennessee wants to have a prayer at getting any value out of a pick in the last round, drafting a kicker is the best bet.
Defensive line
At the very least, the Titans could use some depth here. The departures of Jurrell Casey (trade) and Austin Johnson (signed with the Giants) has left Tennessee a bit thin upfront.
It’s also worth noting that DaQuan Jones will be a free agent in 2021, so it’s possible the Titans will lose another starter along the defensive line. Don’t be surprised if the Titans add a player here on Day 3.
Cornerback
The Titans were very fortunate to see Fulton fall in their lap, as he checks multiple boxes for them. Now, the Titans have a guy who can play both slot corner (their biggest need) and on the outside.
At this point, the Titans’ secondary is looking good as currently constructed, but there is still a need for depth there. Look for the Titans to possibly draft a second corner to help fill out the bottom of the depth chart.
