The Tennessee Titans failed to improve upon their AFC Championship berth from a year ago after losing their Wild Card Weekend matchup versus the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.
While that served as the overarching disappointment of the season, there were multiple players at the individual level that underperformed, particularly on defense.
As a unit, the Titans’ defense finished 24th in points allowed, 28th in overall yards allowed (19th vs. run, 29th vs. pass), and dead last in both sacks per pass attempt (3.02 percent) and third-down defense.
After a full season of ambiguity on the subject, head coach Mike Vrabel and some Titans’ defensive leaders quickly threw outside linebackers coach and quasi-defensive coordinator, Shane Bowen, under the bus.
Ultimately, the responsibility falls at Vrabel’s feet, though it’s unlikely we’ll hear him say anything other than, “we’ve got to coach better.”
