Titans agree to contract extension with punter Brett Kern

The Tennessee Titans and Pro Bowl punter Brett Kern agreed to terms on a multi-year contract extension Thursday.

Kern has been with the Titans for 11 years, and has been selected to the Pro Bowl in each of his past two seasons.

“I am blessed to be able to make it through that many coaches, and to be in one city for a long time,” Kern said during the Pro Bowl. “I never take it for granted. Being cut from Denver (earlier in my career), it was not a great feeling and I know it can happen at any time if you are not performing.”

Having cemented himself as one of the best punters in the league, Kern averaged 47.1 yards per punt last season, including a 41.7-yard net. He also pinned 39 punts down inside the 20, recording just three touchbacks.

Kern is the longest-tenured Titans player, and has played under head coaches Jeff Fisher, Mike Munchak, Ken Whisenhunt, Mike Mularkey and Mike Vrabel.

The Titans enter the 2019 season with plenty of work to do, but fans can rest assured they’ve got things covered in the battle of field position as long as Kern is in Nashville.
