Titan Fifita set for NRL return at Broncos

Gold Coast have been given a massive boost ahead of Friday's NRL derby against Brisbane with David Fifita set to return from a knee injury.

The wrecking-ball forward trained well on Wednesday and Titans coach Justin Holbrook is confident Fifita will make his return on the interchange bench against his former club at Suncorp Stadium.

Fifita hasn't featured for the Titans since limping off in the 18-4 loss to Penrith on April 29 and Friday's game will be a chance for the 22-year-old to impress Queensland coach Billy Slater before the Maroons team for State of Origin I is named on Monday.

"Dave got through training really well yesterday," Holbrook said.

"As long as he gets through today, he'll play tomorrow night."

Friday's game is one the Titans simply cannot afford to lose and Holbrook is hopeful a fired-up Fifita will be at his damaging best against the in-form Broncos.

"I expect a big impact from him, that's for sure," Holbrook said.

"He's a great player, an important member of our team and we've missed not having him play the last few weeks.

"It'll be great to have him back in our side."

The Titans are set to be without Origin representative Moeaki Fotuaika, who has succumbed to an ankle injury suffered in last Sunday's loss to Cronulla.

While Fotuaika is almost certain to miss Friday's game, Holbrook expects the front-rower to be available for selection for the Maroons if required.

Sam Lisone is expected to replace Fotuaika in the Titans team for Friday's game.
