Tisdale sees 'bags of talent' in his Bristol Rovers squad as he responds to relegation question

Paul Tisdale believes it is "incredibly important" his Bristol Rovers team gather momentum quickly after slipping into the League One relegation places.

The Gas dropped into the bottom four with defeat at Swindon Town on Tisdale's first day in charge, but he and his players can respond quickly with a trip to Wigan Athletic on Tuesday.

Tisdale held only his second training session with his players on Monday, and he has already recognised the ability in the group.

He said: "Every day, every minute I pass them in the corridor, every minute I speak to them, every time we train is a moment I will learn about them and hopefully I can galvanise them and gain some momentum.

"They’re a young group, they’ve got bags of talent. We just need to somehow put that all together and become an effective team.

"I don’t think it will happen overnight, and if we do get a really good result, it won’t be cracked at that moment. It’s going to take some time to get the image I want to see.

"(It is) incredibly important (we build momentum), every game is important. It’s always about the next game and we’ve got an opportunity again on Tuesday to do that."

The weekend's defeat at The County Ground left Rovers in 21st place, five points and two places ahead of fellow strugglers Wigan.

Ahead of the trip to the DW Stadium, Tisdale was asked if Rovers are in a relegation fight.

"You see where we are in the league," he replied. "There’s a heck of a long time to go, but I’m a realist and it’s not about tomorrow.

"It’s about today and we’ve got to make sure we pick things up as soon as we can.

"It’s a very honest question and I’m a realist. We’ve got to win the next game, or try to and do our very best.

"It will be a fight until we can get out of it, and I’m not going to wait for tomorrow."
