Tisdale explains Jaakkola, Oztumer, Grant and Westbrooke absences for Bristol Rovers at MK Dons

Bristol Rovers boss Paul Tisdale explained the absences of four key players for the trip to MK Dons on Saturday afternoon.

The Gas are without Erhun Oztumer and Zain Westbrooke after they contracted COVID-19, while Josh Grant and Anssi Jaakkola are out injured.

Bristol Live understands midfielder Grant has a muscle issue, while goalkeeper Jaakkola has a sore Achilles, which ruled him out of the win over Plymouth Argyle a fortnight ago.

Ahead of the game, Tisdale told BBC Radio Bristol: "It’s a new experience for me, the whole squad out for 10 days. I think we’ll be OK, I’m certainly not making any excuses today. Either way, we’ve got good players on the pitch.

"We’re missing some, Josh Grant is out injured, Anssi’s injured in goal, so we’ve got some players injured but it’s an opportunity for someone else.

"We’re missing (Erhun) Oztumer and Zain Westbrooke, they would have been playing today had they not contracted the virus. We miss those two.

"It’s not only the players that have had the virus, it’s the players that haven’t trained for 10 days.

"It’s not just their own sharpness, it’s their own potential for injury that you have to worry about because you de-train for 10 days and then go straight back into it.

"We’re dealing with these problems but we’re not the only club that has problems. Really, we’ve got as much chance as anybody today."
