Rattan and wicker are far too timeless to call a trend, they've been around for decades in various forms (my first experience was an inherited Lloyd Loom chair), but they do seem to be having a particularly trendy resurgence right now.
Look at any 'new in' section of all the most popular homeware brands (Anthropologie, Lulu & Georgia, Magnolia to name a few) and you will find some form of wicker or rattan decor right up top. And big designers are decorating with rattan too – two of my favourite designers right now, Cortney Bishop and Heidi Caillier, have both featured the materials in projects they have shared recently.
And the versions I am seeing for 2025 are far chicer than my much-loved, but a little old-fashioned, second-hand piece. Here, I have rounded up the new rattan and wicker pieces that have caught my eye. It's a design trend that's so perfect for right now, as these textured materials are always going to give a room a more summery feel.
Lighting is one of my favorite ways to bring rattan into a room. I have already switched every lampshade in my home to some variation of rattan, so adding in some smaller accent lighting would work beautifully. These would look lovely as bedside lights or to create some symmetry on a console table.
There's a whole wicker collection going on as part of Target's collaboration with Shea McGee, but I thought this side table was really worth shouting out. Bringing rattan into a kitchen is a lovely way to give it a quick and easy spring/summer update. I'll be placing mine on the island or countertop and filling it with lemons for a real Mediterranean feel. This is a great price too, at just $30.
I would use these all summer long, they would really elevate my tablescapes. It's all in the details when it comes to a beautiful table, and I think my boring stainless steel servers need an upgrade to something that's going to get attention and add some extra texture to the table.
Rattan is so right now that the iconic Capri Blue candles have had a rattan upgrade. This smells as summery as it looks, with a scent of tropical fruits and sugared oranges, lemons, and limes. Delicious.
A tray is such a versatile piece all year round, but it comes into its own in the summer months when you are constantly carrying things between indoors and out. This would be a lovely way to build a centerpiece on an outdoor table or ottoman, too.

It's suitable for both indoors and outdoors (although it will need to be covered in bad weather), so once summer is over, this will be perfectly happy at home in your living room, or actually as a kitchen couch.
However, the material has come a long way since my Lloyd Loom chair was made, and brands are bringing out plenty of new, beautiful pieces that feel far more on trend than my inherited furniture. Technology has come along too, so now you can find wicker and rattan pieces that are really hardwearing, weather-resistant, and even waterproof.
