Tirupati GGH files police complaint against O2 supply contractor, holds them responsible for 23 Covid deaths

TIRUPATI: SVRR government general hospital has filed a complaint with the Alipiri police against the Oxygen supply contractor on Friday, holding him responsible for the deaths of 23 Covid-19 patients due to lack of oxygen on 10th May this year.

Dr T Bharathi, superintendent at the SVRR government general hospital alleged in her complaint that 23 Covid-19 patients expired due to non-availability of oxygen on May 10 this year at the medical wards of the hospital due to the delay caused in providing liquid medical oxygen on time by the oxygen supply agency.

"During the preliminary enquiry conducted by the Chittoor district collector, it was noticed that the oxygen supply contract agency had delayed in providing liquid medical oxygen on time from Tamil Nadu despite an alert being raised to the agency. The oxygen supply contract agency was bound to maintain the emergency backup manifold system but the cylinders were put in place at 7.30 pm by hospital authority and the alarm system to provide alert in case of drop in pressure is not functional", Dr. Bharati added in her complaint.

After examining the report, the government has instructed to initiate action against the oxygen supply contract agency "Shree Bharat pharma and medical oxygen distributors, Kurnool, for their negligence in the delayed oxygen supply that caused death of 23 COVID-19 patients at the hospital on 10th May this year and also on grounds of breach of contractual terms of the tripartite agreement signed on September 20, 2018.
