Tirupati civic body to widen two more internal roads to ease traffic bottlenecks

TIRUPATI: After recently expanding several roads crisscrossing in old Tirupati that awaited action for more than three decades, municipal corporation of Tirupati (MCT) has taken up widening of two prominent stretches that are considered serious bottlenecks in the old town.

A vital link road from Tilak road to Thathayagunta area is being developed via Mallaiahgunta Katta and Jabbar layout for a distance of 400 metres, which is expected to provide the much-needed relief for road users.

Once a lane measuring a mere 15 feet in width, the stretch is currently being developed as a 40-feet road abutting the TTD’s Sridevi complex.

MCT authorities led by the deputy mayor Bhumana Abhinay Reddy visited this stretch last month and concluded that its expansion was inevitable to ensure movement of ambulance or fire tenders during emergency situations.

Similarly, the road abutting the TTD’s administrative building from Bhavani Nagar junction towards Railway colony is also widened to a distance of 500 metres.

The huge open drain, which carries rain water flowing from Tirumala hills during flood situations, has remained an eyesore for decades.

“We are now closing the drain with slabs and extending the road to ensure free flow of traffic” Abhinay Reddy told TOI, during his inspection of the ongoing work in the two stretches.

He instructed superintending engineer T Mohan and municipal engineer M Chandrasekhar to strictly adhere to quality standards.
