TIRUPATI: Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams plans to expedite the renovation works of Srivari mettu pedestrian route by spending `3.6 crore.
The 2.1km-long pedestrian route — which passes by the Srinivasa Mangapuram temple — has 2,388 steps and is the shorter of the two trekking routes to Tirumala.
It was ravaged by the torrential rains which devastated the temple city in November last year.
The shelters and steps along the route were reduced to rubble by the cascading flood waters and large boulders which rolled down from the hills and crashed on the steps.
The TTD trust board, which met in December last year, approved the engineering department’s proposals and sanctioned `3.6 crore for the restoration works.
The trust board also allocated `1.6 crore for construction of an amenities complex for pilgrims at Mahanandeswara Swamy Devasthanams in Kurnool district.
In 2013, the trust board had resolved to build amenities complexes for pilgrims at six temples across state.
While TTD will allocate funds and undertake the construction, the administration of the complexes would be handed over to the respective temple bodies.
