Tips to counter underarm pigmentation

The months of wearing layers have gone by and now you wish to hit the town with light summer dresses and sleeveless outfits. But does your fashion spirit go down due to underarm pigmentation and you don’t feel confident enough to try sleeveless outfits?

If it's a yes, then read on. There are various reasons for underarm pigmentation such as genetics,

obesity, use of deodorants with aluminium and harsh chemicals, abrasion caused by shaving, or less

exfoliation causing accumulation of dead skin cells. Underarm darkening is a common concern for

many people.

Here are some easy tips to counter underarm pigmentation

1. Add fruits and greens to your diet

Your diet should consist of rich vitamins and minerals. Include plenty of fruits and vegetables, whole

grains, and proteins to prevent pigmentation in underarm area.

2. Avoid hot-waxing

Avoid using hot wax, hair removal creams and threading for underarms. The process of waxing removes a thin layer of the skin thus, inviting infection and irritation. In the long run, frequent waxing can cause your skin to lose its elasticity and turn darker. It is wise to opt for shaving or laser hair reduction sittings for better results.

3. Cut chemical irritants

Managing underarm odour is also a major concern and we do impulsive buying when it comes to

deodorants and thus welcome irritants to our armpits. Various irritants such as parabens, triclosan,

aluminium are found in deodorants that can cause skin irritation and inflammation, resulting in

thickening and darkening. Narrow down to a natural formulae Roll-On that contains safe ingredients,

and no toxins. It can nourish and moisturise underarms and also soothe inflamed skin.

4. Balance with glycolic acid

Glycolic acid is apt to treat underarm pigmentation. With superior exfoliation, it removes the

bacteria breaking down your sweat, and does away the odour. You can use it once a week, after

cleansing your armpits. Trying a new product should always start with a patch test, apply a small

amount of the product onto a clean area of the skin and if you experience redness, irritation, itching

or blistering, then it is advisable to not use it.

5. Cleanse regularly

Similar to the face, the underarms can also be affected by skin sensitivity and irritation. Due to the

folding of the underarm skin, it's prone to being moist due to the lack of airflow, which makes it a

breeding ground for bacteria and yeast. Exfoliation twice a week will help in removing dead skin cells

to remove roughness and dryness in this delicate area. It will also control excessive sweating and

provides long-lasting freshness. Look for Clean Beauty products with Natural extracts of Daisy Flower

and Mucor Miehei to help remove roughness and discolouration.

With these small steps in your self-care regime, you can regain your confidence and flaunt your

sleeveless summer wardrobe.
