Tips reopen to very different scenes in Leeds compared to the rest of West Yorkshire

Recycling centres in Leeds were remarkably quiet this morning - in stark contrast to scenes at several other recycling sites across West Yorkshire.

Five tips reopened in Leeds today, although anyone wanting to visit needed to book online in advance.

Despite the centres being closed for several weeks, there were no queues in Leeds as people seemed to adhere to the pre-planned system.

However, the same could not be said for recycling sites in Huddersfield and Kirklees. Read more about this here.

Some people were up at the crack of dawn to queue outside their local tip from 6am this morning. These pictures show the staggering queues at the Emerald Street site in Huddersfield.

As reported by Yorkshire Live, Kirklees Council announced a strict set of rules that people must follow and warned that sites will be closed if the queue is causing issues for emergency vehicles and other key workers or if cars are unlikely to reach the front before the closing time.

Five Leeds sites have now reopened, in Kirkstall, Meanwood, Middleton, Pudsey and Seacroft.

Under the new system, all five sites will be open from 8am to 8pm, seven days a week.

However, people are being warned that they should only take material to their local recycling centre if it cannot be stored safely at home. This includes items that may cause a fire risk or attract vermin.

Leeds City Council says it is working hard to reopening their other centres in Wetherby and Yeadon shortly.
