Tipping Point viewers cringe at Ben Shephard's horribly 'ironic' question

Tipping Point viewers could not believe it when Ben Shephard asked the most ironic question ever on the show.

It came very awkwardly after a contestant called Megan had failed to correctly guess the answer to very easy question.

Host Ben asked the contestants: "Which planet in our solar system is the only one with intelligent life?"

Nick buzzed in straight away and answered: "Earth."

Viewers all made the same joke about the awkward question (ITV)

He was correct, but the question came at an awkward time given Megan's fail on the previous question.

Ben had asked: "Which reality TV series released a number of online mini episodes titled Fresh Out Of Essex?"

Megan buzzed in straight away, but then appeared to go totally blank and could not even offer a guess before the time ran out.

Nick answered the question correctly (ITV)

"Megan!" exclaimed a frustrated Ben.

"Oh Megan, it was The Only Way is Essex!"

Plenty of viewers took to Twitter, all to make the same joke.

One wrote: "#tippingpoint ironically on intelligence here".

"The irony of that intelligent life question" quipped another.

A third wrote: "Earth has intelligent life, present #tippingpoint contestants excepted".

"Earth the only place with intelligent life? Well the way things are, I don't know. It's debatable if there is any intelligent life anywhere," wrote a fourth.

Others added: "As always, this show is devoid of intelligence #TippingPoint" and: "That question was clearly wrong. Intelligent life on earth? This proves that to be untrue. #tippingpoint".

The show recently caused controversy when a contestant starred on it shortly after taking part in another ITV quiz show, Tenable.

One viewer tweeted a photo of Georgia on Tenable alongside a photo of her on Tipping Point.

They wrote: "Georgia who recently appeared on #Tenable now on today's #TippingPoint."

But some fans seem to think people should only be allowed to take part on one game show.

One ranted: "Same people on quizzes all the time UNFAIR #TippingPoint".

Another chipped in: "I could name a dozen people who have been on several quizzes and 95% of people don't even get a reply, Richard in my postcode has been on 12 quizzes UNFAIR #TippingPoint ".

* Tipping Point airs on weekdays on ITV at 4pm
