Tipping Point's Ben Shephard disbelief at contestant who 'can't name any Scottish cities'

Tipping Point viewers had a field day in mocking a contestant on the Ben Shephard hosted quiz show on Monday.

A contestant on ITV game show made a shocking admittance while struggling with a question about where the University of Strathclyde was based.

While it may not be entirely clear as to where this educational institution is, contestant Bethany brought infamy to her appearance by giving an answer that soon went viral on Twitter.

Some contestants may have just passed on the question but Bethany made up a place named "Stratham" before adding the snippet that she 'didn't know any Scottish cities.'

With Edinburgh and Glasgow being two of the biggest cities in the UK, it wasn't long before viewers were feasting on Bethany's intellectual fail.

To make matters worse, even the University in the question got in on the act, mocking the contestant in a series of tweets.

The social media team at the University was soon retweeting the clip from the show and adding their own comment of "Stratham?!"

In the video, Ben Shephard is seen asking another contestant whether they know "in which Scottish city is the University of Strathclyde? You can play this or pass it to Bethany".

After the question was passed on Bethany, Ben then says to her: "You can think of as many Scottish cities you like before you give me the one that you want to be your answer."

Bethany replies: "I don't actually know any."

Ben looked in disbelief at her answer, before Bethany offers up: "Um...Stratham? Is that even a place? I'm just going to go for it. That is what it is."

Before revealing the answer, he asked the first contestant where they thought it might be, and they replied "Glasgow."

The penny didn't seem to drop for Bethany who seemingly continued with her belief that she couldn't name any cities in Scotland.

Before Ben gives the answer, he returns to the first contestant who says that he thought it was in Glasgow.

On viewer tweeted in response: "As an aficionado of The Chase, I watched this through my fingers, whilst screaming."

Another tweeted: "Good grief, the ignorance".

Meanwhile, The University of Strathclyde Library and IT got in on the act, tweeting: "BRB, just off to move the Library to Stratham, New Hampshire. Won't take me long!"

*Tipping Point is on weekdays at 4pm on ITV.
