Tipping Point's Ben Shephard banned from going on TV show by his wife

Ben Shephard has enjoyed a long-running career on our screens, featuring on a variety of programmes.

However, it's unlikely we'll ever see him on Strictly Come Dancing - as his wife won't let him.

Annie Shephard, to whom he has been married for 18 years, has explicitly banned the Good Morning Britain host from starring on the BBC dancing competition.

While discussing the idea with Andi Peters on GMB, Ben said: "Andi, I would love to do Strictly.

"As you know, I spent three years in university learning to dance, I have a degree in dance - it doesn't make me a good dancer, obviously.

"But my wife really doesn't want me to do Strictly, I've spoken about it very publicly, but she's not interested in me having an affair."

His comments come after many celebrities who've taken part in Strictly Come Dancing have ended up splitting from their wives, husbands, girlfriends and boyfriends.

The 47-year-old added: "I think she's being very narrow-minded and it could be a great opportunity, who knows what could happen?

"It would be an amazing experience, I love a bit of spangle and glamour on a Saturday night… As things stand though, that's a negotiation that needs to happen between the BBC and my wife.

"I can get myself into a lot of trouble here!"

The couple have been together since 1995, and share two sons - Jack, 15, and Sam, 14, the Mirror reports.

Funnily enough - Ben has previously revealed people often think he is married to his GMB co-host Susanna Reid.

In 2015, US singer Carrie Underwood mistakenly thought the two were an item while appearing on the show.

Ben's wife Annie is a very successful interior designer whose work has appeared in House and Garden, Glamour, Elle Deco, Elle and Red to name a few.

She has been caring for Ben while he recovers from an agonising leg injury that left him needing surgery.

He said on the White Wine Question Time podcast: "We met at university and I was sort of a mere puppy when it came to the world of broadcasting media.

"She has been through all this with me - the highs and the lows of all that experience. And she is still here, somehow, still putting up with me to this day."

Ben keeps his home life with Annie and the boys relatively private, but does share adorable snaps of them playing in the garden together.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV and the ITV Hub.
