Tipping Point's Ben Shephard astonished as 'worst ever player' makes unexpected move

Tipping Point host Ben Shephard told player Jean she had garnered the most amount of penalties the show had ever seen in Thursday's episode.

But loveable Jean from Leeds remained in the game longer than some of her competition as she redeemed herself following a series of errors.

While her general knowledge was not as up to scratch as her competitors Simon Gary and Hope, Jean ended up leading out of the three remaining players and stormed to the final.

A very baffled Ben said: "Jean, you are now leading after your sixth penalty point, which I still can't believe."

Jean guessed that the female amateur detective in Agatha Christie's book was named Agatha Christie (ITV)

"I know, I can't believe it!" agreed Jean, who was a tenancy administrator.

Ben asked the group: "Agatha Christie's novel A Body In The Library features which female amateur sleuth?"

Jean buzzed in and answered: "Agatha Christie?"

A confused-looking Ben replied: "No, you lost it then didn't you - you mean Miss Marple, you just repeated the author's name.

Ben said no one had ever racked up so many penalty counters on the game (ITV)

"Agatha Christie wrote the novel, of course."

Jean giggled as she realised her error, as one viewer tweeted: "I never knew Agatha Christie’s novels were autobiographical Jean #tippingpoint"

"Which Agatha Christie... AGATHA CHRISTIE! #tippingpoint" joked another.

Ben then asked: "Sharing her surname with a bird, the US singer whose hits include All I Wanna Do and If It Makes You Happy, is Sheryl who?"

Jean failed to answer and the time ran out as Ben cried: "Crow! Sheryl Crow!?

"Jean, we have to steal a counter from you because of Sheryl Crow and put it into the penalty point," added Ben.

"I'm not sure we have ever had six counters in the penalty point, but that is what's happened today."

But Jean stayed in the game until the final as the penalties gave her and her fellow players some extra questions.

One fan commented: "Good save Jean #tippingpoint".

"Well I never, we have Hope & Jean storming through to the final, sorry Simon," added another shocked viewer.

Meanwhile Hope ended up having her own blunder as Ben asked who was being Educated in Willy Russell's 1980 play.

"Edward Scissorhands?" she ventured, as Jean guessed "Harry".

"Rita, it was Educating Rita," replied a weary Ben.

Hope eventually won £10,000 and burst into tears with joy when she found out her incredible winnings.
