Tipping Point fans outraged as teacher mistakes Anne Frank for fictional figure

Tipping Point viewers were far from pleased when a contestant on tonight's show mistook Jewish World War II diarist Anne Frank for a fictional character.

On this evening's episode, a school teacher called Steph took to the podium to face a quizzing from Ben Shephard.

At one point, the Good Morning Britain presenter posed a question about a fictional character in a novel - but Steph's answer was quite off the mark.

Ben asked: "In a classic novel by Johanna Spryl, what is the name of the orphan sent to live with her grandfather in the Swiss Alps?"

"I have got an idea but don't know whether to pass or not... I think Pete [the other contestant] might know it," Steph responded.

She continued: "Erm, I don't think this is right but I am going to go for it as I think Pete knows it anyway.

Another added: "I think Steph recalls Anne Frank escaping the Nazis, leaving Switzerland and settling in the state of Long Island."

"Steph, if Anne Frank went to Switzerland to live with her grandfather, her diaries would have made for a lot more pleasant read... #tippingpoint," penned a third.

"Steph the teacher on #tippingpoint making me glad my children haven't been to school for 6 months," penned another.

Steph did not make it to the final, and competitor Pete walked away with £3,450.
