Host Ben Shephard asked him: "Henry VIII had how many wives named Anne?"
Looking unsure, Alex answered: "Seven?"
Ben smirked as he said: "He had two wives named Anne - Anne Boleyn and Anne of Cleves. I don't think you were listening at that point were you."
They then both laughed, Ben seemingly in disbelief, as Alex had thought all of the past King's wives had the same name.
Fans on Twitter thought it was a hilarious moment as they shared their comments.
Ash said: "Wow proper thick. #TippingPoint."
Dave said: "He thought all of Henry the 8th wives were called Anne #tippingpoint" followed by several laughing faces.
Matt said: ""Henry the 8th had how many wives named Anne"... "Seven" I'm done!"
Not long after Alex was booted off the show and went home empty handed.
Tipping Point is on ITV weekdays at 4pm
